Keep the scan and add searchable words

A scanned PDF can contain only pictures. Optical character recognition adds usable text. iReadAll lets you check recognized passages on the original image before downloading a PDF with an invisible text layer.

  1. 1. Open a scanned PDF

Choose an unencrypted PDF. Existing text pages stay searchable while you recognize image-only pages.

  2. 2. Recognize and check

Choose English or Chinese + English, then recognize a page, a range or the document. Search a distinctive word and compare the result with the original.

  3. 3. Download your searchable PDF

Finish the remaining image-only pages, then choose Download searchable PDF. Reopen the result in a PDF viewer and check a few names, numbers and phrases.

OCR without uploading your document

On-device recognition downloads its language tools and processes the page images locally. Long scans can take time and memory. Keep the tab open, or stop and continue later using the completed recognition cached in this browser.

What the exported PDF contains

The original pages remain visible, with recognized text placed invisibly over the scanned words. Existing native text pages are preserved. The export supports unencrypted documents and the characters available in its bundled font; unsupported characters produce an explicit error instead of silent loss.

Recognition is not a guarantee of accuracy

Faint print, skew, small text and complex layouts can confuse OCR. Compare quotations and critical values with the source. A searchable PDF is not automatically a fully tagged, accessible document. Replacing an existing damaged text layer is not supported by this export; use a checked text download or repair the source document.
